While volunteering at PAWS Thrissur, Nanditha witnessed the challenges faced by animals without limbs, often sidelined due to overcrowded shelters and limited resources. Immobility leads to complications like obesity and kidney diseases. Inspired by Ruby, a shelter dog who passed from kidney failure shortly after receiving her prosthetics, the initiative to create prosthetics through digital fabrication was formed.
Through Make for Animals, we address animal welfare with designers by creating affordable prosthetics. Collaborating with local Fab Labs, we aim to develop an open-source repository of customizable prosthetics for animals with mobility challenges. This initiative advances community-based production and promotes local craftsmanship, enhancing animal welfare and fostering empathy.
